Central Iowa Beekeepers Association
Susan Kelly Memorial Youth Scholarship Program
About
The Susan Kelly Memorial Youth Scholarship Program was established in 2022 in honor of the late Susan Kelly who was the mother of a family of beekeepers. She and her family dedicated hours of volunteer time to teach beekeepers how to become better at our hobby. This scholarship is CIBA's way of honoring Susan's legacy by involving youth in keeping honey bees. We will give out one scholarship each year which includes one complete hive set-up (including bees and associated equipment), as well as assign a mentor to provide beekeeping guidance.
Purpose
The program is designed to introduce youth to the wonder of keeping honey bees. The responsibilities of the recipient will be to care for honey bees in keeping with what the mentor recommends. The enjoyment of the hobby will be realized soon after the bees are theirs to care for.
Eligibility
The applicant must be between 13 and 16 by December 1 of the current year and new (including the immediate family) to beekeeping.
